Building evacuated – house fire: two people rescued from balcony

In the early morning hours of December 8, there was a fire in an apartment building in Vöcklabruck. For an unknown reason, a fire broke out in the apartment of a 66-year-old and smoke quickly spread to the stairwell. The fire brigade rescued several residents and the entire building was temporarily evacuated.

A neighbor in the apartment building on Kaplan Street in Vöcklabruck noticed the fire on the first floor around 2 a.m. and alerted the emergency services. When the fire brigade arrived at the scene of the accident, the entire stairwell was already heavily smoked. While firefighting efforts began, the respiratory protection team searched the building and found the 66-year-old resident of the fire apartment unconscious in front of her entrance door. She was rescued from the smoke-filled room by firefighters and taken to hospital after first aid.

Escaped to the balcony
At the back of the building, two people were standing on their balconies and were brought to safety by the Florianis using ladders. The entire building had to be evacuated; Due to the cold of minus 7 degrees, about 15 to 20 people were temporarily transferred to the adjacent house and cared for by the Red Cross. A total of three fire brigades quickly brought the room fire under control. After about an hour and a half, almost all tenants were able to return to their apartments.

Cause of fire unclear
The fire apartment is currently uninhabitable and three other units in this area are temporarily closed. The cause of the fire is still the subject of a police investigation.
