After a short respite and warm summer days, another change in the weather is announced. There have been strong thunderstorms in parts of Austria since Monday morning. Initially, Salzburg and Upper Austria were hit hardest. The storm is currently moving towards Styria. There are even heavy hailstorms in Graz.
More than 10,000 lightning bolts were measured in Upper Austria alone, according to weather experts. Around 6 p.m. several thunderstorm cells reached the south of Austria. Until then, Graz had been particularly affected. Here, some Twitter users are posting videos of coarse-grained hail in the city center.
Strong temperature contrasts
During the day, strong temperature contrasts can be felt in Austria due to the storm. While only 20 degrees were measured in the Mühlviertel and Waldviertel, it was extremely humid in Lower Carinthia with up to 33 degrees in the Lavanttal.

Isolated lightning strikes are also possible in Vienna at night. In addition, weather experts also warn of hailstorms and heavy rain. More thunderstorms are expected in Austria in the coming hours.
