The government will introduce a bill next week to dissolve parliament “after exhausting all efforts to stabilize the coalition”

Israeli citizens are allowed to go to the polls again for the fifth time in three years. The ruling coalition announced on Monday the dissolution of the Knesset (parliament) and the call for early elections. “After exhausting all efforts to stabilize the coalition, we have decided to introduce the bill [para disolver el Parlamento] to vote in the Knesset next week,” Prime Minister Naftali Bennett and Foreign Minister Yair Lapid said in a statement. Two leaders of the ruling coalition since June last year, when they came together in a unique formation in the country’s history, made up of parties from the right, center and left to end Benjamin Netanyahu’s twelve years in power.

The executive branch is due to introduce a bill next week to dissolve the parliament, which would mean the end of the 36th government of the state of Israel. According to local media, the elections are expected to take place at the end of October.

The decision has shocked the government team. “It’s a shame that the country has to go to elections again,” said Defense Secretary and Blue and White Party leader Benny Gantz, expressing his surprise at the intention to dissolve the Knesset, which he described as “Shame according to the Times of Israel newspaper. However, Gantz has assured that he will not “judge” the measure and has emphasized that the executive will continue to hold office “to the extent possible”.
