The European Commission promises to speed up Zelenski’s EU accession process

Date:

EU full political support for Ukraine. The visit of the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and the Head of Diplomacy, Josep Borrell, to Kyiv, the capital of a country bombed by Russia, sends a clear message: they are the highest dignitaries to enter this country. The invading country will meet with its President Volodymyr Zelensky. But also a witness to the consequences of the Bucha massacre.

But political support has also become a promise. “We are on your side in the dream of Europe,” von der Leyen told a joint news conference in Kyiv this Friday. Vladimir, my message today is very clear. Ukraine belongs to the European family. We have heard your request loudly and clearly. And today we are here to give you the first positive answer. This envelope, dear Vladimir, is an important step towards EU membership. The questionnaire that is here is the basis for our discussion in the coming weeks. This is where your path to Europe and the European Union begins. This questionnaire, which I am going to give you, needs to be answered, as these are questions that will further shape the EU’s opinion as a recommendation to the Council. We are ready to help you finish 24 hours a day, seven days a week. We know a lot about each other because we have been working very intensively together for the last few years. So, as usual, it will not be a matter of years to form this idea, it will be a matter of weeks if we work closely together. ”

“I’m deeply convinced that Ukraine will win this war,” von der Leyen said. “Democracy will win this war. Freedom will win this war. And each country has the right to create its own future. “We will work with Ukraine to rebuild Ukraine, and that means investment and reform, and it will continue on its path to the EU.”

Von der Leyen visited Bucha with Borel: “It was important to start my visit to Bucha today. Because our humanity has collapsed in Bucha. It is fair that the world voted for Russia to be suspended from the UN Human Rights Council. This war is a challenge for the entire international community at a crucial moment. Will terrible destruction win or will humanity win? Does the right to power or the rule of law win? Will there be constant conflicts and battles or the future of common prosperity?

“This is a very special visit to Bucharest,” Zelensky said. Human life is valuable, let’s work together. This is important for all Ukrainians, for all our children, who can see their lives in Ukraine in the future. ”

Zelensky insisted on his appeal to the EU: “This is where we belong. The goal is to be in the EU. The most important thing is that we share values and we have shown this because we are fighting with all our might for these values, for the right of our people to choose the world in which they can live, in the hope of freedom. country.”

“As president of a liberal and peaceful state,” Zelensky said, “I do not like to talk about weapons, but we must protect our freedom, our lives, our territorial integrity and, most importantly, all our people.” This is our treasure, our unity, our strength. I would like to personally thank Ursula von der Leyen for the fifth package of sanctions, but it is not enough because they have taken a lot from us, the territories, the people. We are going to rebuild the territories, but we will not be able to revive these people, unfortunately. This is a big responsibility, keep helping us in sanctions. “This is the only way, because Russia can only understand such a language.”
