“Lost” on the Krippenstein – Tired hikers needed a helicopter taxi

Date:

Lost in the snow, then too tired to take another step. A couple from England had to be rescued by a police helicopter from Krippenstein (Upper Austria).

The couple from England – she 52, he 50 – started their mountain tour from the Obertrauntal to the 2100 meter high Krippenstein around 9.30 am. Wearing normal hiking clothes, the couple set out to climb the mountain via trail number 662. From an altitude of about 1,500 meters, the two had to hike over and over over snowfields, constantly losing their orientation and taking longer than planned. before the ascent.

No target in sight
When the two hikers became increasingly exhausted around 5:30 p.m. and the planned destination was still not in sight, they called the cable car company. Three employees went on foot and with the Skidoo in search of the helpless people. At the same time, the mountain rescue service in Obertraun and the police helicopter were informed of the operation.

Too tired to go down
After an attendant of the funicular had reached the English, it became clear that further ascent or descent was no longer possible due to exhaustion. The people were therefore picked up by the police helicopter in the rough terrain and flown to the mountain station of the Krippenstein cable car. From there, the couple could take the funicular down to the valley
