Emotional story – this super granny won double gold at the age of 94!

Date:

Together they are 185 years old: Styrian Eleonore Gutsche (94) and Lavanttaler Hermann Andrecs (91) were the big stars at the Austrian Athletics Championships for seniors (from 35 years) in Klagenfurt! While Gutsche was late due to sad circumstances, Andrecs reveals his secret recipe for eternal youth. . .

With over 90 years of shot put or pole vault. Unthinkable? Not for Eleonore Gutsche & Hermann Andrecs! The two super oldies were the big stars in the Austrian senior title fights (from 35 years) in the Leopold-Wagner-Arena (KLC) in Klagenfurt!

At the age of 94, Trofaiacher Gutsche (PSV Leoben) threw the ball at 3.50 meters, the javelin at 7.40 meters and (as the only participant of course) clawed the title in the W90 class. And was dissatisfied! “Normally the ball flies to 4.50 meters”, Eli sighed.

Sad Backstory
The cheerful Stiermarker only entered athletics after a tragic event. “My son and husband died young, in 1984 and 1986 – at the age of 66 I ran my first marathon in London and then another 13 around the world. Sport gives me a lot, I feel really good,” says Gutsche, who sees himself as a late bloomer: “I didn’t get my driver’s license until I was 59!” How do you stay fit? “I train every day, think a lot about Chinese medicine – and foot gymnastics!”

Andrecs from Lavanttal (SU Leibnitz) has been involved in sports for 70 years – he currently has the best performance in the world in his M90 class with 1.60 in the pole vault. In Klagenfurt, the 91-year-old didn’t go further than 1.40 m this time, but at least he won gold in the high jump (90 cm). For optimal high jump training, the St. Pauler even flies regularly to Leibnitz. His recipe for eternal youth sounds simple: “Sport, sport and more sport! And very important: enjoy it”, laughs Andrecs.

Curious: Elfriede Fuchs from Styria missed the registration deadline for the championships – otherwise with 102 (!) she would have been the oldest in Klagenfurt. . .
