A convicted felon in England could face a longer jail term for allegedly sending selfies and messages from prison. The UK Department of Justice confirmed that it is currently conducting a corresponding investigation.
The criminal, who was arrested in 2012, sent selfies to friends from his cell and was active on Facebook, YouTube and Whatsapp. A spokesman for the UK Prison Service said: “We will not tolerate the illegal use of mobile phones in prison and inmates caught should prepare to spend longer behind bars.” According to the PA, cell investigations are underway.
The prisoner caught in this case was sentenced to life in prison for a racially motivated murder in London in 1993. Under certain conditions, convicts in such cases can be released after decades. In addition to the detainee, four other men were arrested in the case, but only one was convicted.
