The corona numbers and hospital admissions related to the Covid pandemic are rising again en masse. On Wednesday, the Health and Food Safety Agency reported 1,393 patients had been hospitalized with Covid-19, 94 more than Tuesday. The number of new infections is also rising sharply: 14,389 cases have been registered in the past 24 hours, more than 6,000 more than a week ago.
Not only was that well above the average of 8,976 cases over the past seven days. It also marked a correspondingly sharp rise in the seven-day incidence per 100,000 population, which stood at 575.3 Monday and now, two days later, at 696, it’s just under 700.
The number of active cases of SARS-CoV-2 infection increased by 9,716 to 83,155 cases within one day. This means that there have been 5,105,202 confirmed cases in Austria since the start of the pandemic. The number of recovered patients rose to more than five million, exactly 5,001,313 patients. In the past 24 hours, 4671 patients were reported as healthy again.
Two people died from or with Covid 19 disease in the current comparison period, the seven-day average was 3.3 per day. In total, the Covid 19 pandemic has claimed 20,734 lives in Austria since it broke out.
73 of the 1,393 Covid patients hospitalized were in an intensive care unit on Wednesday, two fewer than the day before. However, in the past week, the number of Covid patients in intensive care has increased by 16.
