Within a few days, 20 characters are gone. The police are investigating.
Police in the St. Pölten district are currently dealing with an unusual series of thefts. In just five days, a total of 20 road signs at 13 locations disappeared without a trace.
The unknown perpetrators neatly dismantled and took seven place name signs, two signposts, three danger signs and two extra signs, mainly in municipalities in the Pielachtal. In addition, six movable traffic signs were stolen at a construction site in Wilhelmsburg.
Damage in the four-digit range
The total material damage amounts to approximately 3000 euros. The Kirchberg an der Pielach road maintenance department has filed a complaint and the police have already started the investigation.
The motive of the thieves is still unclear. What is more obvious, however, is that they have mostly acted under cover of darkness and may have deliberately chosen the crime scene. In only sparsely populated areas, all the removed signs were posted on country roads.
