Keys to the new tax measures announced by the government of Spain on September 29, 2022

The Finance Minister of the Government of Spain, María Jesús Montero, announced on Thursday a series of fiscal measures agreed by PSOE and United We Can, partners in the executive branch, with a view to the 2023 budgets. These are the keys of this package of measures:

-The new tax on large fortunes It will tax a net worth of more than 3 million euros.

-This new tax will be applied in 2023 and 2024 and will consist of three parts: between three and five million net worth will be paid 1.7%; between five and ten million, 2.1%; and above ten million, 3.5%.

-With the new tax, with which the wealth tax can be deducted, the government of Spain expects to collect 1,500 million euros. It will affect 23,000 taxpayers, 0.1% of the total.

-It will rise one point, to 27%, the taxation of capital income in the personal income tax of more than 200,000 euros.

-For capital gains more than 300,000 euroswill rise to 28%, two points more.

– Measures are approved in the personal income tax to preference for middle and low income: for example, the tax benefit that currently applies to incomes up to 18,000 euros will be increased to 20,000 euros. This measure leads to a saving of 1,881 million euros. For an employee without descendants who earns 18,000 euros per year, a tax saving of 746 euros per year is calculated, with which he would pay 40% less tax.

-Labour income from €15,0001000 euros more than now, will be exempt from paying personal income tax.

-There will be an corporate tax reduction up to 23% for SMEs billing less than one million euros, and a temporary limitation on the deduction of losses from previous years that can be applied by large business groups.

-The corporate tax reduction benefits 407,000 companies, saving them 292 million euros.

-Large consolidated groups will only be able to deduct 50% of their losses in 2023, although they can apply the rest in 2024. This will increase collection by EUR 2,439 million in 2023 and 2024, affecting only 3,609 companies, 0.2% of the total.

-The fiscal package announced by the government of Spain will bring some reporting net tax income of 3,144 million euros in the next two years.
