Terrible! A suspected robber would have attacked a sexton (87) on Thursday with an iron bar in front of the altar in the Valentinskirche in Braunau. The victim was seriously injured.
Around 7.30 pm during the daily evening prayer, the Romanian (26) he knew asked the sexton again for money. When the 26-year-old got nothing this time, he is said to have beaten the back of the elderly man’s head, who was kneeling on a prayer bench, with an iron bar until he fell bleeding to the floor.
The victim screamed desperately for help. The suspect then tried to cover the 87-year-old’s mouth, but gave up and fled. The sexton was taken to the hospital in Braunau, according to the police.
The police were able to locate the suspect relatively quickly. He had been arrested.
