The Address and the labor unions from Siemens Gamesa they are going meet this tuesday 4 october, for the first time following the company’s announcement that it will lay off 2,900 workers, 475 of whom will be in the Spanish state. Siemens Gamesa’s five factories in Hego Euskal Herria (Zamudio, Asteasu, Mungia, Sarriguren and Arazuri) employ a total of more than 2,800 professionals; the trade unions ELA, UGT and CC. OO. They showed their rejection of the cuts this Friday.
In this context, the trade union THE A He has warned Siemens Gamesa that they will oppose any “reduction in employment and working conditions”, and assured that the announcement of layoffs would not “surprise” them.
In the words of ELA, it is “cruel” that more information has not been passed on to the employee representatives. As the switchboard states, there is “boredom and anger” among the staff because of the situation in the company.
For its part, the Federation of Industry, Construction and Agriculture (FICA) of ULS has shown that it rejects the restructuring plan announced by Siemens Gamesa and has emphasized that “no one is left” in Navarra, where the company has two factories (in Arazuri and Sarriguren).
During a press conference, the general secretary of FICA-UGT, Lorenzo Ríos, demanded the “immediate start of the employment table, to know exactly the scope of this plan”. “Here we have 1,823 employees and we demand the restructuring of the industrial fabric and employment that Siemens committed to when it acquired Gamesa,” said Ríos, calling it “inadmissible” for the company to propose an adjustment plan without “industrial justification”.
DC. OO. de Navarra has expressed concern about the company’s decision; it is a measure, he has said, which he rejects and which he “will oppose.” The union has assured that it will take a radical position against the announcement of layoffs, and that it will mobilize in defense of each of the jobs.
The exchange questions not only the content but also the forms of the announcement, as the CEO communicated the decision to the staff by “email, without appearing in person or giving further explanation to the employees of the company”.
The Minister of Economic Development, Sustainability and Environment of the Basque Government, Arantxa Tapiareferred to the situation of Siemens Gamesa this morning, pointing out that “it cannot be maintained over time”.
