The Vienna police carried out a key action against the Roadrunner scene on Saturday evening. Officials from the National Office for Transport (LVA) established targeted and coordinated checkpoints throughout the city, focusing – again – on excessive speeds. Within hours, there were 561 reports of speeding.
The “peak value” was achieved by a motorist driving at 148 km/h in a 70 zone. Of the speeders caught, two did not have a driver’s license at all and in one case the driver’s license was taken from a motorist. In five other cases, “traffic offenders” got rid of their license plates. Technical changes to the highly tuned vehicles could be proven 18 times.
Three people were even arrested – they had already received traffic fines that had not been paid. “Thanks to the professional efforts of the police officers, an important contribution could be made to promoting road safety in Vienna,” the state police summarized.
