The “Steirerkrone” has been around for 50 years – and many Styrians have subscribed to it just as long! For the big anniversary, four of our most loyal readers visited Graz and Eastern Styria.
Brigitta and Franz Hofer are happy people, you can feel that right away – a visit to them immediately puts you in a good mood. The couple has been married for 56 years and has been watching the “Krone” together for almost as long. How did this happen? “The father, who was in the same house, had the ‘daily mail’ at the time”, the Hofers say.
“And we also wanted something new. We watched the ‘Krone’ a few times, we liked it – which is why we stuck with it to this day. We appreciate that, especially because it always arrives on time, and the delivery has been running virtually without disruptions for 50 years.”
As a GAK fan, sport is particularly important
Since then, our leaf has been part of the breakfast ritual. “Whoever gets up first prepares dinner, my husband reads first, then I,” says Brigitta. Above all she likes politics, local reporting and sports, “as a GAK fan that is of course very important to me”. Franz first leafs through all the headlines and then reads all the stories thoroughly. “And then the newspaper arrives on the TV table in the living room, so we have the TV program for the evening at hand. That fits perfectly!”
“Because she is politically independent”
Our second route takes us to the Riegerbauer couple in Siegersdorf, who can still remember today why they originally chose the Kronen Zeitung: “Because it is politically independent and we wanted information without bias.” And: “Because she’s there on time in the morning, seven days a week.” Here too, she is “just part of the spread, bread, coffee and egg in the morning”.
“We share the newspaper and then trade,” they say. Brigitta Riegerbauer especially likes national and international news. “When everything is tidy in the morning, I sit down and study everything carefully.” Solving the riddle is also the prerogative of the Styrian.
The Eastern Styria have three children, “of course they also grew up with the ‘Styrian crown'”. If the parents have “read” our Styrian daily newspaper, then it has a “secondary use”: “Our son, who lives in the same house, gets it after work and reads it too.” The family is well informed!
Thank you to our loyal subscribers
We would like to thank the two sympathetic couples on behalf of everyone who grabs the “Steirerkrone” every day. On the occasion of our anniversary, of course, especially for those for whom the “Krone” has been an integral part of everyday life for decades. Which has accompanied her through ups and downs, through family history. Stay with us!
