“Holy Cow” – majority continues against Tempo 100 on the highway

Date:

A current study shows: Despite the sky-high costs, Mr and Mrs Austrians do not want a lower speed limit.

If fuel prices skyrocket at the pumps, as is the case with the carbon tax now, when the 130 mark falls on our highways, slaughtering a “holy cow” is usually discussed quickly. Market agent therefore asked 867 local motorists about the proposal for a maximum speed of 100 km/h. The results are not surprising: 71.4 percent are generally satisfied with the current regulations, only 12.2 percent are dissatisfied. 64.8 percent firmly reject a permanent “hundred”, especially frequent drivers with more than 20,000 kilometers per year (55.4%) and declared FPÖ voters (69.4%).

During the energy crisis, Austrians are more likely to temporarily agree on 100 km/h (37.8%). 47.1 percent also completely reject that compromise. The main criticisms of the respondents: long travel times (44.2%), high risk of fatigue (43.3%) and poor traffic flow (42.9%). The lower fuel consumption (46.3%) and the contribution to climate protection (34.8%) are assessed positively.

44 percent against any form of traffic restriction
Incidentally, 44.2 percent of the respondents do not want to accept further restrictions in road traffic. If the Austrian drivers have their way, the “130” will remain untouched.
