Although he had tens of thousands of euros in savings, a Styrian robbed a bank. Immediately afterwards he cycled to the police. What drove him to act?
The Styrian Marker (54) always got on well with his neighbors. A rather one-sided view, as it turned out during the negotiation: “Orderly? Your apartment looks like a mess!” answers Judge Andreas Rom. It stank, neighbors complained. Then the cancellation fluttered in from the property management.
Before that, the journeyman baker also lost his job. Although he had no financial worries – the deceased parents had saved 50,000 euros for the rent – the man panicked.
First to the bank, then to the police
As “battle against homelessness” he describes the following action with a plastic gun in his hand: “I rode my bike to my house bank. Said ‘get the money, this is a robbery’. Then I biked to the police drove and I gave everything back.”
He knew he would have to go to jail for this: “I have a roof over my head. When I get out, I want an apartment again, that’s the key to success.” He doesn’t have much time for it: 24 months, at least eight. Not legally binding!
