Police alerted – drones reported near North Sea gas fields

Date:

Following the suspected sabotage of the Nord Stream 1 and 2 Baltic Sea pipelines, Danish police have been notified of unauthorized drone flights near natural gas fields in the North Sea. The report came in over the weekend, a police spokesperson said on Tuesday.

According to Danish Offshore Industry magazine, drones have been spotted near the Roar gas field operated by French group TotalEnergies, more than 200 kilometers west of Denmark. It was the second such incident in a week. Last Thursday, the daily newspaper “Ekstra Bladet” reported on “unapproved” drone activities over the natural gas Halfdan B, which is also operated by TotalEnergies.

When asked, the group referred to the Danish authorities, “to whom we report any possible sighting”. The “necessary measures for security procedures” have been taken, the company is “in contact with the police, the army and the Danish energy authority”.

Drone sightings also in Norway
On the Danish island of Bornholm, four leaks were discovered last week on the Nord Stream 1 and 2 pipelines that run from Russia to Germany. The pipelines are not in operation, but for technical reasons they are filled with gas, which flowed into the Baltic Sea in large quantities.

As a result, Denmark increased security measures at its power plants. Norway, now Europe’s largest gas supplier, has followed suit and sees its platforms as a possible target after rogue drones were recently spotted.
