Scary and beautiful – Salzburgers founded their own Krampus apartment

Date:

In the middle of the first Covid lockdown, five friends from Tennengau founded the Corona Pass. Now the men even live together – welcome to the shared apartment Salzburg Krampus!

The idea came from their wives. “You just come home snoring and stinking,” was what the members of the St. Kolomaner Coronapas always heard when they came home from their house visits dressed as Krampus and Sinterklaas. “You can actually sleep away immediately,” the women immediately told their loved ones.

No sooner said than done! The five residents of Tennengau, Wolfgang Göllner, Sebastian Fiedler, Hannes Schorn, Andreas Waldmann and Hannes Klabacher did not have to be asked twice and quickly set up their own Krampus share apartment. “I rent out a holiday home in St. Koloman, so we always stay there between December 4 and 6,” laughs Waldmann. No one has to be afraid of each other’s snoring; every Krampus has his own bedroom. “We’re having fun together, it’s like a holiday,” the five men grin.

The Corona thing doesn’t need any runs
The friends came together in the middle of the first Covid lockdown. Krampus and Perchten runs were banned at the time, so it was decided to revive the old custom of home visits. “It was fitting that we called ourselves Corona Pass,” says Fiedler. Around Sinterklaas, the “Covid Krampus” go from house to house in St. Koloman. “It’s good for people, we can even respond to all requests.” During their visits, the residents of Tennengau collect donations for the “St. Koloman helps.” Nearly 3,000 euros have been raised in the past four years.

However, you won’t find the Corona Pass guys at Krampus wreaths or runs. “This has little to do with customs anymore, we don’t need that,” the five emphasize in unison. And: “We prefer to stay in our shared apartment.”
