Damage of 2385 euros – climate activist (20) charged after bribery

Date:

At the end of August, two activists glued themselves to the lavish frame of a work of art in the Berlin Picture Gallery – one of them now has legal consequences. The Public Prosecution Service has filed a report against a 20-year-old. There was a damage of 2385 euros.

The work “Rest on the Flight into Egypt” by Lucas Cranach (the Elder) was affected. The activists wore T-shirts with the text “Stop the fossil madness” and were taken off the frame by alarmed police officers using solvent and arrested. According to German media, they were 19 and 24 years old at the time of the incident. A 24-year-old and a 58-year-old who allegedly filmed the crime were also arrested.

Allegation of willful damage to property
The now 20-year-old must now answer to the juvenile judge of the Tiergarten court for destruction of property, according to the public prosecutor.

Artwork is deliberately chosen
The group Last Generation, who posted a photo of the protest on Twitter, motivated the choice of the artwork as follows: “Mary, Joseph and Jesus were on their way to a safe haven. However, humanity is moving towards a deadly climatecatastrophe.” In a world that is two to four degrees hotter, there can be no more safe haven and people “want to risk the collapse of civilization”

Activists have to pay for helicopter operations in Vienna
In this country too, sticky campaigns by climate activists cause a stir time and time again and hinder road traffic. Most recently, the fact that climate activists were asked to pay for a helicopter operation during a protest in central Vienna made headlines. It is about 1550 euros per person. The organization Last Generation criticized this approach of the police: There were no reasons to use the helicopter.
