Shock to owner – car burglar fell asleep in the back seat

Date:

A major shock to a woman in Vienna on Tuesday morning in the Favoriten district: When the 37-year-old unsuspectingly approached her car, the vehicle’s hazard warning lights came on – even more: there was an uninvited guest in the car.

The woman arrived at her vehicle around 10 a.m., which she had parked at Erlachplatz. Driving away was unthinkable, however, because in addition to the flashing lights of the hazard lights, something in the back seat of the car also had to attract the attention of the vehicle owner. There lay a man she did not know, fast asleep.

The woman then spoke to a nearby construction worker and asked him to get the stranger out of the car. The helpful witness pulled the uninvited guest from the vehicle, after which the sleepy man fled.

“car confused”
But moments later, when the police had already arrived, the man returned and apparently wanted to explain. His version of the story: He’d had too much to drink the day before, mistook the car for his own, then went to sleep in the back seat.

However, the question is how much truth there is in this version. According to the police, the 37-year-old claims to have locked her car with security. There were no signs of break-in in the vehicle. However, the car was “apparently looted,” police said. The suspect – a 41-year-old Serb – has been provisionally arrested.
