Tragic alpine accident late Wednesday afternoon in Tiroler Zirl (Innsbruck-Land district): An Italian fell while climbing the Martinswand and suffered fatal injuries. Because the man was traveling alone, the cause of the accident is still completely unclear.
The accident happened around 5 p.m., according to police. The Italian, who lives in Tyrol, was about to climb the so-called Kaiser-Max via ferrata in the Martinswand when he suddenly fell about 40 meters and suffered fatal injuries.
Italian was traveling alone
“According to testimonials, the victim traveled alone, so the exact cause of the crash is not yet known,” the investigators said. Other climbers who were in the access area of the via ferrata immediately called for emergency and provided first aid.
But for the Italian, all help came too late, of course. The emergency doctor could only determine the man’s death.
