The consortium formed by the companies COBRA -which belongs to the French group Vinci-, and the Basque SENER – with a participation of 62% and 38% respectively- the German regasification terminal of German LNGthe first in Germany.

The regasification terminal for liquefied natural gas (LNG) comes into town Brunsbutteland in the current war situation it is a strategic project for the client and for Germany as part of its energy transition process.

Located in the north of the country, in the mouth of the river Elbe in the North Seathe regasification plant will have two storage tanks of 165,000 m3 and can produce up to 8 BCMA (one billion cubic meters per year) of natural gas, which can be increased to 10 BCMA.

It will be equipped with two docks, unloading arms and pipes, storage tanks, regasification and gas emission systems, a BOG (Boil-off Gas) recovery system, a flare, auxiliary systems and a series of buildings specially designed for the operations.

The terminal will offer various services: loading and unloading of ships, LNG storage, regasification, injection into the German natural gas network and distribution of LNG by tankers and rail cars.

The new terminal offers an alternative to land-based gas. In this sense, the German LNG Terminal GmbH has indicated that this terminal “will make an important contribution to the energy supply of Germany and Europe”.

This EPC construction contract is the continuation of the engineering work carried out by COBRA and SENER as a consortium, including the design and construction of liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminals such as Sagunto (Valencia), Bahía Bizkaia Gas (Basque Country), Gate Terminal (Netherlands), Dunkirk (France) and Zeebrugge (Belgium).

The partnership represents a significant investment and includes a first tranche of preparatory work that will take between 9 and 15 months, with parallel construction work over a period of approximately 42 months. It is expected to be ready in 2026although work is underway to further accelerate the project.
