The 2022 Nobel Prize in Literature goes to French writer Annie Ernaux. This was announced by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences in Stockholm on Thursday.
The prize was awarded to Ernaux “for the courage and clinical acuity with which she exposes the roots, alienations and collective shackles of personal memory”, according to the jury.
Last year, the Nobel Prize in Literature went to the novelist Abdulrazak Gurnah, who is from Zanzibar and lives in Britain. In 2019 the prize was awarded to the Austrian Peter Handke.
Nobel Peace Prize will follow on Friday
After the three science prizes and the announcement of the Nobel Prize in Literature, the Nobel Peace Prize will follow on Friday. Finally, next Monday, the prize for economics is the conclusion – the only one that was not foreseen in the will of the Swedish inventor Alfred Nobel.
The prize is endowed with 920,000 euros
The awards are presented annually on December 10, the anniversary of the death of dynamite inventor and founder Alfred Nobel. Since last year there is prize money of ten million Swedish kronor (almost 920,000 euros) per category.
It is planned that the prizes will be presented again this year in Stockholm on December 10, the anniversary of the death of founder Alfred Nobel. The winners of the years 2020 and 2021 are also invited. In these two years, the award ceremony took place in the home countries of the prize winners because of Corona.
