At least 31 dead in Northern Thailand kindergarten shooting

At least 34 people have died, including some 20 children, in a bloody gunfight registered in a kindergarten in the city of Na Klang, located in the province of Nong Bua Lamphu, north of thailand. Among the fatalities are teachers and police officers who have arrived on the scene.

The attacker, a 34-year-old ex-police officer, broke into the center with a firearm and knives and killed more than 30 people, including 22 children. also killed his wife and son. Then he managed to escape. A few minutes later, however, the police reported that he had committed suicide.

The country’s prime minister, Prayut Chan-ocha, has expressed his condolences to the families of the victims.

Mass shootings are rare in Thailand, although gun ownership rates are high compared to other countries in the region, and illegal gun ownership is common.

In 2020, a soldier furious over a failed real estate deal killed at least 29 people and injured 57 in a massacre that spanned four separate scenes.
