In Innsbruck, everyone with their main residence has the right to vote in municipal and mayoral elections, even if they have not lived there for a year. According to the electoral regulations, it is very different in the rest of Tyrol! This legal loophole must now be closed.
Innsbruck, with its approximately 35,000 students, has a special position in the municipal electoral regulations: everyone can vote in the capital, regardless of how long he or she is registered. This is arranged differently in the other 276 municipalities. One essential condition applies to participating in municipal and mayoral elections: only those who have registered their main residence in the municipality for one year are allowed to participate.
