Moment of shock for a saleswoman from Klagenfurt. A smooth snake wanted to take shelter in a shoe store in the middle of the capital on Friday.
Expert Helga Happ suspects that the smooth snake must have lived hidden in the middle of the city and escaped through the construction work around Kardinalplatz. The reptile then probably wanted to seek shelter in the Hillebrand shoe store. After a brief moment of shock, saleswoman Karoline Lesiak took courage and grabbed the snake with pliers and put it in a shoebox.
The animal lover then immediately informed Helga Happ, who picked up the snake. “We then released them on the south side of the Kreuzbergl. There she finds a frost-free shelter from the cold,” reports Happ.
The non-venomous smooth snake is completely harmless to humans, but is unfortunately often confused with the viper and is therefore unfortunately often killed out of fear.
