After the abandonment of the grain, the Ukrainian port city of Odessa attacked again

Date:

On Wednesday evening, the southern Ukrainian port city of Odessa, important for grain export, was again fired upon. And the Crimean peninsula on the Black Sea annexed by Russia does not calm down either: an ammunition depot is on fire there.

According to local media, explosions were heard in Odessa. The Ukrainian air force said it detected the launch of Kalibr missiles from the Black Sea. There were no further details initially. As early as Tuesday, a few hours after the end of the grain deal, Russia had covered the region with airstrikes.

According to the military administration, the air defense systems in the capital Kyiv also repelled a new night attack from Russia. All Shahed-type kamikaze drones have been intercepted, it said Wednesday morning. Five people, including two children, were injured in an attack on a village in eastern Ukraine’s Donetsk oblast. The two boys, ages 1 and 13, were playing in the courtyard of a residential building, the internet portal Ukrajinska Pravda reported Tuesday night, citing local authorities.

2000 people evacuated in Crimea
More than 2,000 people had to be evacuated after a fire at a military training ground on Russia’s annexed Crimean peninsula. Residents of four neighboring towns have been affected, local governor Sergei Aksyonov said via telegram. The fire also partially closed the Tavrida highway. Aksyonov gave no reason for this. Russian and Ukrainian Telegram channels reported that an ammunition depot on the military site caught fire after a drone strike.

Narrator: “Odessa is not afraid”
Work in Odessa will continue even during the Russian attacks, Serhiy Brachuk, spokesman for the port city’s military administration, stressed. Russia is trying to “terrify the whole world, especially those who want to work for the Grain Corridor … Ukraine, Turkey and the United Nations.” But I think all normal, reasonable people will look at us and say: Odessa was not afraid, is not afraid and will not be afraid – we will work,” Brachuk said in a voice message on his Telegram channel.

Russia ended grain deals
Russia has been waging a war of aggression against neighboring Ukraine for nearly 17 months. The southern regions of the Black Sea, which are of great importance to Ukraine because of their port infrastructure, have also been repeatedly targeted by Russian shelling. Millions of tons of food have been exported through Odessa in recent months as part of the international grain agreement. Russia withdrew from the deal on Monday.
