“Huge Pumperer” – gas explosion in Vienna caused widespread use

Date:

Shortly after midnight, a gas explosion in Vienna-Floridsdorf triggered a large-scale operation. Neighbors had thrown him out of their beds and immediately alerted the emergency services.

Witnesses report a loud bang that could be heard even several miles away. The cause of the explosion is said to have been a gas bottle that started to burn and led to the explosion a short time later.

Neighbor Gerda lives diagonally below the affected apartment: “I woke up with a huge pump, only outside on the street did I see what was going on. Police, fire brigade and ambulance did a sensational job. The smell of melted rubber and plastic is still everywhere in the apartment.”

More gas cylinders have been seized
When emergency services arrived, six to eight propane gas cylinders were still trapped and refrigerated in the apartment. Car windows were also shattered. Parts of the facade ended up in the opposite courtyard.

Another neighbor named Florian also lives on the same floor (1st floor): “I was thrown out of my bed, outside it looked like during the war. We were then evacuated and spent almost four hours in the house next door.”

Hoarded for the Advent market
The tenant is an elderly Austrian. According to the first information, he would have hoarded the gas bottles for an Advent market. The police are still investigating the case.
