Will the water in schools and kindergartens in the city of Salzburg remain cold this winter? In order to save the eleven percent energy required by the federal government, the construction department is looking for savings potential in all areas. Children in municipal facilities should wash their hands with cold water.
The austerity measure would have been announced at a parents’ evening, the “Salzburger Nachrichten” reported over the weekend. The specification that there will soon be no more hot water in the city schools comes from the construction department under alderman Martina Berthold (citizen list).
“See areas where we can save”
This was Sunday to the APA “surprised” that such information had already been passed on. “We check all areas where we can save,” says Berthold. All services have been asked in a letter to communicate before October 14 where hot water can be turned off. “There has been no response from the school board yet,” said the alderman.
With a quick assessment, areas such as the fire brigade, sports facilities or schools with showers were excluded in advance. According to the newspaper, this also includes special schools and the baby changing rooms of kindergartens. “We certainly won’t let a child freeze,” Berthold said in the APA interview.
