Markus Riedl (44) stops speed demons and helps with the tire change. Why he enjoys his job and why he showers only in the office.
How is the weather today? Markus Riedl starts his working day with this question. Around 05.45 am the man from the Waldviertel looks out the window. If it’s not raining hard and it’s not too cold, the 44-year-old cycles to work. That’s an impressive 10 km from Riedl’s house in Lengenfeld to Krems an der Donau, so not a stone’s throw away. “Oh, I’m fine! I can take a shower at work,” says the father of three, who never wants to go to work sweaty. Take a shower? Quick and convenient like at home? Where is that? “Well, at the police!” Riedl laughs with palpable pride and adds that he “has been working with great pleasure for the highway police in Krems for almost 20 years”.
