Thieves apparently don’t have a good hand with farmer Gudrun Rögl: the 28-year-old has a detective instinct that she uses successfully when needed. For the second time, she managed to catch thieves in the act and have them arrested.
“I hope we have some peace now”, emphasizes the courageous mother of the two boys Xaver (1) and Paul (five years). Last Sunday she celebrated her last success as a hobby detective.
Rögl and her husband run a shop on their own farm about four kilometers from the Moosbach community center in the Innviertel region, offering products such as milk, yogurt, honey, jams and juices. And next to the Kirchenwirt in the village there is also a self-service cabin. There have been problems in recent weeks: strangers kept stealing goods without paying.
“Had Happened Before”
“It happened once a year ago. I then caught a thief in the act and was able to pass on his license plate to the police, who caught him,” says the farmer’s wife. A few weeks ago, a new series of thefts started – the damage was in the high range of three digits.
However, since the self-service cabin is equipped with a surveillance camera, Rögl knew what at least two of the crooks looked like. “Since the crimes only happened on Sundays, we took turns lurking and looking at the cabin last Sunday.”
More products discovered
“My mother-in-law notified me at 3 p.m. that the suspects were there. I immediately went there and my mother and father came too,” explains Rögl. Together they prevented the four Romanians (17 to 51) from escaping. “We blocked her car until the police arrived,” Rögl said. Products from a farm shop in Ranshofen were found in the quartet’s car, and a voluntary inspection of their premises in Schalchen also found a large amount of empty packs from Moosbach.
