Satellite technology from Berndorf is once again on a research mission in infinite expanses, but also close to Earth – because the EU is sending “forest spies” to the heavenly spheres!
The European launch vehicle Ariane 6 will go into space for the second time in mid-February. The blue-yellow special thing about this mission: to prevent burn-up, technology from Beyond Gravity Austria, Austria’s largest space supplier in Berndorf, is used.
Domestic technology
“On the journey from Earth to space, the disks, protected by home insulation, must withstand extreme heat of up to 1,500 degrees Celsius for a few minutes. “That is a temperature at which iron starts to melt,” marvels Wolfgang Pawlinetz, head of the thermal and mechanical sector.
But the blue and yellow pioneers also look at our planet! The European Space Agency’s environmental satellite mission ‘Biomass’ is about to start. Their ‘forest spies’ are launched to monitor the condition and development of the forests. An advanced navigation receiver from Beyond Gravity determines the exact position in space. “Our technology enables even more accurate location determinations over all treetops in the world,” says Managing Director Kurt Kober.
In the first half of 2025, a European Meteosat weather satellite of the latest, third generation, will be launched into space from a spaceport in the US. Technology from Lower Austria is on board.
