The crisis at the gas station is far from resolved in France. In the past hours, a new refinery has joined the strike and it already affects six out of seven what’s in the country.
The Dongues (TotalEnergies) refinery, near the port of Saint-Nazaire, went on strike from 05:00 today, workers are dissatisfied with the forced opening of two refineries announced by the French government on Tuesday.
According to the latest data from the Executive, almost 30% of the gas stations in France are sold out. The two regions most affected are the of Paris, with 44% of stations closed, and the heights of France (44.8%).
The Striking workers criticize TotalEnergies and ExxonMobil for not sharing huge profits which both companies registered because of the increase in fuel prices due to the war in Ukraine. The French trade union CGT Specifically, it calls on the French group (TotalEnergies), which made a profit of $10.6 billion in the first half of the year, to a 10% wage increase. 7% to offset the effect of inflation and another 3% to redistribute benefits.
Today, TotalEnergies meets with union representatives who are not involved in the strike movement. The company assures them that if the CGT “stops” blocking the refineries by noon today, they will also be “welcome” to the meeting.
Consequences of the strike in Iparralde
The strike has also affected Iparralde, albeit to a lesser extent. Yesterday, Tuesday, the gas station on the A-63 in Bidarte was blocked for several hours following a call from the trade union CGT. In the afternoon the staff went back to work, apparently after a salary increase and improvement in working conditions.
