A couple from the Ried district was seriously injured in a collision with a truck in Katzenberg (Upper Austria) on Tuesday evening. The 51-year-old may have overlooked a truck when crossing an intersection.
The 51-year-old woman was driving her car on Simetsham Municipal Road at 7:10 p.m. Her 54-year-old husband was a passenger in the vehicle. She translated the intersection with Altheimer Strasse in the direction of Katzenberg and may have overlooked a semi-trailer truck driven by a 56-year-old man from Linz. The truck driver was unable to avoid a collision and collided with the couple’s car without brakes.
The car ended up on the left side of the road during the collision. The force of the impact ripped the engine block and threw it into the adjacent field.
The truck left the lane on the right and only came to a stop after about 30 meters in an adjacent field. The semi-trailer’s steering axle broke off and the semi-trailer overturned on its right side. The 51-year-old driver and her husband were injured in the accident and taken to hospital. The truck driver was not injured in the accident.
