Euskaraz irakurri: Barkala: “Bilboko Portuak gerrikoa du, finantzarioki ondo gaude”
The President of the Port Authority of Bilbao, Ricardo Barkalaexplained that despite the rising prices of raw materials and energy, the Port of Bilbao “has a waist, financially we are good”.
In an interview with the Radio Euskadi program “Boulevard”, Barkala pointed out that the crisis is increasing gas traffic and fuel imports. In any case, he stressed that less and less Russian gas is arriving in Bilbao and that it has gone from the first emitter to the third or fourth. Now the gas mainly comes from the United States, Nigeria, Trinidad and Tobago to Bilbao.
Barkala believes that the Port of Bilbao could be a way to bring gas to Europe. In his opinion, the Port of Bilbao would have the capacity to store and distribute more gas in its current facilities and then distribute it all over Europe: “The Port of Bilbao has the capacity to accommodate more ships”.
Asked about the consequences of the crisis, the president of the Port Authority of Bilbao said that in addition to the increase in gas and fuel, there is also an increase in the traffic of ro-ro vessels (for the transport of trucks without tractor head) and that of cruise ships. This year the record number of cruise ships in the port is reached: 80.
The transport of general goods (steel, paper, etc.), on the other hand, experienced sustained or moderate growth.
