British King Charles III. (73) has only been on the throne for a little over a month, but he already has a reputation for easily breaking character in front of the camera. After making a name for himself cursing a leaking fountain pen during the ceremonies to mark his proclamation as the new king, he has now entertained himself online with an unflattering comment to Prime Minister Liz Truss.
Charles greeted the Prime Minister during the weekly audience at Buckingham Palace on Wednesday, according to a video broadcast by British broadcaster ITV (see above): “Back again. Oh dear, oh dear.”
Truss had bowed before, shook his hand and said, “Your Majesty, nice to see you.” Charles replied, “in any case.”
Tense relationship
The relationship between Truss, who took office just days before the Queen’s death, and the King is said to be tense.
What caused a stir was that Charles, a lifelong champion of climate protection, had to cancel his participation in the UN world climate conference next month at the request of the government.
Unlike her predecessor Boris Johnson, Truss has put the issue of climate protection on the back burner and enjoys working on wind energy and solar systems.
