The Basque institutions have agreed to establish a 2% deflation in the personal income tax by 2023, a measure added to the 5.5% deflation applied in this tax this year to mitigate the impact of inflation on taxpayers. minimalize. The measure was approved this Friday by the Basque government, the provincial councils and the Association of Basque Municipalities-Eudel within the Basque Council of Public Finances.

The Lehendakari, Iñigo Urkullu, has already put forward this measure during the plenary session of the Basque Parliament on September 22.

Deflation, which must be approved by the General Assemblies of Bizkaia, Álava and Gipuzkoa, consists of adjusting the personal income tax rate to prevent taxpayers whose salaries have increased due to inflation from ultimately paying more taxes.

The 2% deflation is applied to the rate and IRPF deductions. In addition, the CVFP has extended the deduction of 200 euros for tax bases of less than 30,000 euros until 2023 and a gradual reduction thereof for tax bases between 30,000 and 35,000 euros.
