As of this week, according to the Ministry of Health, 1.3 million personalized reminders for a corona booster vaccination have been sent to those people for whom such a vaccination is particularly recommended. More than 60-year-olds whose primary vaccination course has already been completed and whose last vaccination was at least six months ago will receive such a mailing as part of the #GemeinsamGeimpft autumn campaign.
The willingness to receive a booster vaccination in this age group is high, the ministry reported Friday, as nearly one in four out of 2.4 million people has already received a new vaccination dose, affecting a total of some 625,000 people.
Panel recommends booster vaccination
Five million people living in Austria have already completed the basic vaccination course – consisting of three doses – and have thus received basic protection against serious corona disease. However, this decreases over time, which is why the National Immunization Commission recommends a booster vaccination for all people over the age of twelve – especially if they are over 60 years old or belong to the group of “risk patients”, and so the latter also receive the personal reminder letter .
“Vaccination protects against serious corona disease, including death, and reduces the risk of contracting Lung Covid. As an added bonus, the refresher also prevents a lot of contamination for at least a few weeks. Especially in view of the currently high number of infections, it is important that everyone completes the basic vaccination and receives the booster vaccination,” said Minister of Health Johannes Rauch (Groenen).
