The Mödling fire brigade went out in the early morning hours on Friday for an apparently bizarre operation. A man climbed into an empty postal parcel box in the Lower Austrian district town and was locked inside. The person was quickly rescued by rescuers and unharmed.
Just after 4 a.m., the emergency call came in to the fire brigade. According to Paul Fastner of the Mödling fire brigade, two men had the idea to climb into the parcel box on their way home.
One of the two actually carried out the project. The door was locked. But opening was then neither possible from the inside nor from the outside. The man was trapped.
door forced open
The fire brigade had to intervene and eventually break open the parcel box to free the trapped person. According to the emergency services, a battery-operated door opener and a lever bar – a so-called Halligan tool – were used. Twelve helpers were on site with three vehicles.
