The accident happened to the 85-year-old last Sunday when he was lighting a grave lamp in Hermagor in Carinthia. He spilled bits of the burning oil all over his body.
“The man desperately tried to put out the fire on his body in the shower, but was only partially successful,” police said. “His brother, alarmed by the barking of the house dog, immediately called the rescue services.” After the emergency doctor’s first aid and rescue, the 85-year-old was flown directly to the Klagenfurt clinic by the rescue helicopter RK1.
Despite efforts
Unfortunately, despite their best efforts, the doctors were unable to save him. “The pensioner died on Wednesday from the consequences of the burns,” the police said.
