Waitrose began legalizing sunflower oil, which it sells to all consumers due to the war in Ukraine. Most of the sunflower oil sold in the UK was imported from Ukraine, and the war delayed supply.

According to The Telegraph, the supermarket has posted signs telling consumers they can only buy two bottles of cooking oil in one visit. The delay is due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, which supplies 80% of British sunflower oil.

According to The Telegraph, a Waitrose spokesperson said: “We want to make sure consumers continue to make their own decisions about cooking oil, so we’re asking them to buy no more than two units each.”

The company also limits the amount of oil that can be purchased online on its website. If consumers try to buy more than two bottles, they will receive a message: “This ingredient has not been added. To help more customers get the products they need, you can order only two of the sunflower oil category.”

About 80% of the sunflower oil sold in Britain is sourced from Ukraine. Most of the rest comes from Russia. Some Sainsbury’s supermarkets also have labels indicating that the supermarket has a problem with the supply of sunflower oil.
