With the current Corona rules coming to an end this Saturday, concerns are mounting again that Austria could slide back from contagion almost haphazardly into the following fall. As so often, simulation researcher Niki Popper warned that an appropriate strategy had to be developed so as not to be taken by surprise again by the situation.
The good news first: the apparently imminent relaxation of the corona measures is currently no problem for the experts at TU Vienna. It is also currently impossible to predict whether and when a possible new virus variant will be released, Popper explains. in “Vienna Today”.
Politically unprepared again?
However, a concrete estimate can always only apply to the ‘current dynamics’, Popper warns politicians to make appropriate preparations. According to the simulation researcher, this would also have the side effect that people could prepare for it in the summer. As an alternative to the many tests, he proposes screening, which involves selective testing and then mathematically extrapolating. Measures and test strategy should in any case go hand in hand, says Popper.
The researcher now draws a line similar to that at the beginning of the year: at the time he showed a great deal of incomprehension for the line of the federal government, which, despite all knowledge and despite the numerous warnings, apparently unpreparedly steered into the microwave wave.
There are signs of easing
However, as the current infection situation plummets, the current signs are all pointing to opening. The federal government must decide this week how to comply with the rules in Austria – the currently in force regulation expires on Holy Saturday. This will put an end to the new mask obligation.
Only the city of Vienna has already indicated that it will maintain its somewhat tighter course. But here too, a switch from 2G to 3G could take place, for example in the gastronomy.
How are the Corona rules going?
One change, on the other hand, has already been resolved: the ninjas have stopped their fight against Corona in the schools. The Ninja Pass, introduced as proof of testing, will be available after the Easter holidays ultimately no longer issued, as the Ministry of Education explained in a decree.
From then on, only once a week will be tested. This also eliminates the provision in the Covid-19 School Ordinance, according to which only those students (and teachers) who have “evidence of low epidemiological risk on a daily basis” (i.e. vaccination, proof of recovery or test) can participate in classes.
