Ban for all – Russia wants to expand law against homosexuals

Date:

The Russian parliament has called for tougher anti-gay laws in light of Russia’s intensified confrontation with the West and the deployment of its armed forces in neighboring Ukraine. The offensive in Ukraine gave “new meaning” to the proposed law, Alexander Chinstein, a high-ranking deputy to the State Duma and head of the Information Commission, said Monday.

The mission takes place “not only on the battlefield, but also in the minds and souls of the people”. Parliament debated amendments to the 2013 law to prevent minors from being exposed to “gay propaganda”. The new bill would prohibit “denial of family values” and “promotion of nontraditional sexual orientations” for all ages.

Changes approved in the fall
Konstantin Malofeyev, billionaire and media mogul, said during the hearing in the State Duma: “The war is not only taking place on the battlefield”, but also “on our children’s smartphones, in cartoons and movies”. According to the Speaker of the State Duma, Vyacheslav Volodin, the changes are expected to be adopted in the fall. The law will “protect” the Russians, Volodin said.
