Everything top secret – “key witness” Schmid even cheated his own lawyer

Date:

Interesting detail on the edge of the headlines about ex-ÖBAG boss Thomas Schmid, who may soon testify as a key witness against former pioneers. The alleged “mastermind” in the chat affair surrounding the former Turkish network in the federal government – the “Krone” learned from insiders – is alleged to have even defrauded his own lawyer…

Attorney Thomas Kralik has been representing Schmid since the beginning of the Casino affair. It had been rumored for months in Viennese legal circles that Schmid now wanted leniency status, but the preparations for this “mission as a leniency witness” would remain top secret.

To keep everything top secret, it was rumored, Schmid would have secretly changed lawyers. Kralik stubbornly denied that there had been no change of lawyer and there were no statements from Thomas Schmid before the Economic and Corruption Prosecution Service (WKStA).

Secretly changed lawyers
But now it turns out: these rumors were true. (Ex) Schmid’s lawyer Kralik himself only found out on Tuesday morning that Roland Kier had taken over Schmid’s agenda – as early as April 2022…

So Kralik was also cheated – and lawyer Kier apparently pulled the strings: he contacted the WKStA and, according to information from “Krone”, submitted the offer.

Statements not in Vienna
What followed were 15 sweeping testimonies for the chief prosecutors. The place of Schmid’s confession would not have been Vienna at all. Also a security measure to prevent the deal from being noticed.

Until now, these declaration protocols were excluded from the dossier – now they must be included in the dossier and thus made public.

Thomas Schmid played a central role in the corruption affair over chat messages between high-ranking government members and ÖVP members, which led, among other things, to the resignation of Sebastian Kurz as chancellor, club president and party chairman.

45 suspects in the CASAG procedure alone
Just on the 50th birthday of Chancellor and ÖVP Chairman Karl Nehammer, the judiciary dropped the bomb: on the one hand, it became known that Schmid wanted to apply for leniency, on the other, about 45 suspects were currently being held in the so – CASAG – called a process complex. They are being investigated on suspicion of infidelity, false testimony, corruption, bribery and abuse of public authority and breach of professional secrecy.

All lines of inquiry that emerged from the Ibiza video have been summarized in the CASAG process. This includes, for example, the casino investigations (postenschacher) or the investigations into the so-called “Beinschab-tool” (presumably embellished investigations at the expense of the party).
