The Regulatory Council of the Qualified Designation of Origin has reiterated “its outright rejection” of this decision by the Basque government, and “will fight it with all available legal and administrative weapons”.
The Supervisory Board of the Qualified Designation of Origin (DOCa) Rioja will examine in plenary on Friday the specific legal measures it will take against the decision of the Basque government to grant temporary national protection to the Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) Viñedos de Álava.
In a note, the DOCa’s Regulatory Council reiterated “its outright rejection” of this protection, stating that it is provisional until the European Commission determines whether or not to give the green light to the dossier, which it received last May. . .
“It is an administrative act in itself that can be challenged,” said the Supervisory Board, which has emphasized that it is a judicial matter and to which the Supreme Court of the Basque Country has not yet responded.
The project to create this PDO, he said, “has encountered an extensive file of allegations, an appeal and a controversial administrative appeal filed by this regulatory council”.
The Regulatory Council, as he stated at the time, “remains committed to exhausting all possibilities against what it deems an unauthorized use of the goodwill of the DOCa”, comprising La Rioja, the Basque Country and Navarra.
It has insisted that, in any action that undermines or threatens any of the aspects it oversees or to its members, “it will fight it with all available legal and administrative weapons.”
