For the time being, nothing will change in the protective measures against the corona virus in Austria. For Health Minister Johannes Rauch (Greens) this is “not necessary”. The reasons given were, for example, the decreasing number of infections and the decreasing virus load in the wastewater. There will be no national masking obligation in public transport or supermarkets for the time being.
The Ministry of Health has announced that masks are still mandatory nationwide in so-called vulnerable environments, especially hospitals, retirement and nursing homes and doctor’s offices. There are currently no additional measures. This means that a national mask requirement in public transport and in food retail is currently off the table.
“Followed very closely”
“After the strong increases of recent weeks, we have followed the development very closely and made an accurate assessment of the epidemiological developments. The situation has been easing for a few days, so it makes sense to extend the existing rules for the time being” said the health minister.
Mask recommendation, testing, vaccinating
“Of course we will respond if the situation changes in the coming weeks,” Rauch emphasized, recommending wearing masks indoors. “The FFP2 mask is our most effective way to protect yourself and those around you. So reach for the mask indoors.” In addition, he referred to the test offer to be used in case of symptoms, as well as to the vaccination.
