According to new police findings, Slovak Prime Minister Eduard Heger was the original target of a right-wing extremist who last week shot and killed two people in an assassination attempt at a gay bar in Bratislava. Police chief Stefan Hamran announced this on TV Joj on Tuesday evening. On the evening of October 12, 19-year-old Heger approached several times with a gun.
Because the conservative politician was not at home, he went to the pub in the inner city, which he had also had on his list of possible destinations for a while. According to police, the 19-year-old then shot two young men and seriously injured a woman. He then published hate messages and a sort of manifesto with homophobic, anti-Semitic and far-right content on digital networks. In the end he committed suicide.
Heger’s party is increasingly criticized
Since the attack, there have been repeated demonstrations against discrimination against sexual minorities. Prime Minister Heger’s conservative-populist party has also been criticized. It also includes MPs who have repeatedly spoken contemptuously about homosexuals.
