Cruel case of animal cruelty in Lower Austria: In April, “Liam” was found dead in a well in Altlengbach. The dog owner’s partner soon became suspicious. Now the 48-year-old had to answer to court.
In April, the horror report of a dead dog in a well in Lower Austria caused sheer horror. The animal was found at a depth of seven meters – tied at the front and hind legs with tape and slits, the muzzle was tied together. The dog owner’s partner stated that the four-legged friend had escaped and that she and her partner had been searching for the border collie mix for three days. In the end, the 36-year-old made good on the gruesome discovery in the house.
partner under suspicion
In the course of the investigation, the 48-year-old quickly became the target of the criminals themselves. In the couple’s house, for example, adhesive tape and cracks were fixed afterwards. Due to the impending move, the two got into an argument. But the woman became more and more entangled in contradictions. Now she had to answer for animal cruelty at the regional court in St. Pölten. “Not guilty,” she pleaded at the start of the trial. She wouldn’t be able to explain all this if she only answered the judge’s questions very vaguely.
Again and again she brings in a stranger who should be responsible for it. It was a normal day for her, she fed “Liam” twice, they played and then around 7:30pm he was suddenly nowhere to be found. She cannot explain the dog’s “completely empty stomach”, which was determined in the course of a private assessment.
During the search, the suspect also gave neighbors different versions of the disappearance of the border collie mix. The possibility that “Liam” was tied up and gagged and thrown undetected into the pit by a stranger did not seem credible to the judge. After all, it is a massive shaft with a concrete cover that has been pushed aside.
Possible sentence up to two years
To the judge, the atrocity was a “shortcut” in a state of emergency. The evidence is clear. He sentenced the 48-year-old to seven months in prison – not final.
