UK Home Secretary Suella Braverman on Wednesday tendered her resignation to Prime Minister Liz Truss in a particularly delicate context for the government over the failed economic policywhich last week led to the departure of the head of Finance.
Braverman, a former attorney general, took over her current role just over a month ago when Truss came to power. Both held a meeting in which the head of Home Affairs tendered her resignation, according to BBC sources who distanced her from an alleged internal malaise.
The outgoing minister caused controversy after she assured her that her “dream”, her “obsession”, was to watch a plane deport Rwanda to those seeking asylum in the UK, in connection with the controversial immigration measure London plans to send those arriving illegally to the African country while they decide what to do with their applications.
In a public letter explaining the reasons for her departure from the government, the former State Attorney General explained that she has stepped back after pleading guilty to “an error” and “to have violated the ministerial regulation”.
“During today I sent an official document from my personal account to a parliamentary colleague I trust” with the goal of “gathering support for a government move on immigration,” Braverman reported.
So far, the minister admitted that this action was against the rules: “The right thing to do is leave me,” she stressed.
The resignation comes amid mounting pressure within the Conservative Party to force Truss to leave Downing Street in the face of the financial storm and the plummet in the polls that led to her massive tax cut, which she had to revoke.
British Prime Minister, Liz Trusshas said in her weekly appearance before the House of Commons that she is a “fighter not a deserter” and will not resign.
When asked by Labor Party leader Keir Starmer why he is still in office, he blurted out that in his less than 45 days in office he has “done more” than Starmer has in his more than two years as Labour. leader, accusing him of “having no economic plan” and of supporting “the militant unions” that are currently preparing strikes.
