The trade unions GPA and vida demand a salary increase of plus 15 percent from employers, with a minimum of 350 euros for the 130,000 employees in care, care and welfare.
The two unions announced this in a broadcast on Wednesday evening after the third round of negotiations. The round was interrupted after twelve hours without result and work meetings follow.
Higher demands than for retailers and metalworkers
The demands are much higher than in commerce and metallurgy, where union demands are 10 and 10.6 percent respectively. According to the union, the employers in the Austrian social economy had offered 7.5 percent, at least 150 euros, and thus increased their offer. Recently, an employer offer of plus 7.18 percent was in the room.
Roman Gutsch, who is negotiating for the vida union, said: “With the demand of at least 350 euros, we mainly take into account low incomes. They are especially affected by inflation.”
Employers would have offered inflation
The employers, however, would have offered exactly the inflation, for the union members “clearly too low”. Employees have had to perform even more than usual in the past three years and have been under enormous pressure. That should reflect the salary statement. In addition to the salary, various legal framework requirements are negotiated.
“Because the offer from employers is not sufficient, we are increasing the pressure and we are holding work meetings in the social economy from 8 to 10 November,” says Scherz.
